HUMBOLDT & HERZOG: Indigenous Resistance & Cinema Archive

Live Visual Performance

A live visual performance exploring indigenous resistance in relation to Alexander von Humboldt’s South American expeditions. Utilizing archival footage from Werner Herzog’s films—including Fitzcarraldo and Ascent of the Chimborazo—the performance constructs a live cinematic reinterpretation of colonial narratives, nature, and territory.

Originally commissioned for the inauguration of the Cinemateca de Bogotá featuring a live score by German ensemble Brandt Brauer Frick, the project was later presented at the BOGOSHORTS Film Festival. Special thanks to the Goethe-Institut for providing access to the film archive.
